Influence of Column Base Connections on the Cyclic Loading Performance of Double-Jointed Engineered Bamboo Columns

The cyclic loading performance of bamboo double-jointed components different column base connection types was investigated through reversed tests and finite element analysis. Test results indicated that the connections played an important role in failure modes engineered columns: for encased steel plate connection, main mode tensile fracture scrimber section at bottom cladding plate; a slotted-in splitting cross-grain bolt line sheathing plate. initial stiffness specimen 41.8% higher than specimen, with two specimens having similar average bearing capacities. ductility ratio below 3.0 due to brittle nature connections. model accurately predicted ultimate capacity members. modeling error within 12%, which sufficient satisfy accuracy requirements engineering purposes.
